Embracing Honesty: A Healing Journey

Sedona Healing Retreats and Spiritual Coaching

I recently attended a Matt Kahn event that profoundly impacted my understanding of healing. One of his central teachings, honesty as a healing principle, resonated deeply with me. Kahn suggested that our need to "process" emotions stems from a lack of complete honesty.

While this idea initially triggered my resistance, I realized the truth in his words. Honesty, though challenging, can significantly reduce the need for extended processing. By acknowledging and addressing our true desires and emotions,we can avoid the discomfort of suppressing parts of ourselves.

Processing: A Healing Tool

It's important to clarify that processing isn't inherently bad. It's a healing state that requires time, energy, and awareness. However, our goal should be to use processing as a tool, rather than allowing it to control our lives.

"This is what process does. It honors all aspects of us. We start to listen to, love and accept the parts of our ego that don't get what they want. We don't judge, we just make room."

The Power of Honesty

Honesty, when practiced consistently, can minimize the need for extensive processing. By abandoning parts of ourselves for perceived greater goods, we create internal conflicts that require resolution. Processing honors all aspects of ourselves, focusing on listening, loving, and accepting even the most challenging parts of our ego.

Honesty in Relationships

Consider how we counsel a child who doesn't get their way. The most healing approach is to acknowledge their feelings without judgment.  We let them feel in their body that it is okay to feel that way and to want what they want.  By validating their emotions, we create a safe space for them to process and move forward. This proactive approach can prevent future conflicts.

Integrating Honesty into Your Life

To integrate honesty into your life, begin by exploring your inner world. Develop a deep understanding of your true desires and emotions. Once you've mastered honesty within, you'll be better equipped to share it with others.

Consider creating a social contract with those around you, encouraging open and honest communication. By fostering a culture of honesty, you can create healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
