For most of my life, I wore the armor of a tough survivor, believing that emotional detachment made me strong. In reality, I was disconnecting from my inner experiences, shielding myself from the energetic and physical impacts of the outside world. I had learned to push through pain and discomfort, ignoring the warning signs of my body.
In 2012, while working with intuitive healers, I began to receive the message that I was "too open." Initially, I struggled to understand what this meant, as I felt I was trying to be more intuitive and sensitive. Over time, I realized that my empathy was absorbing the emotions and energies of others, overwhelming my own system.
I began a journey of self-discovery, focusing on my own feelings and needs. I realized that my body had been overworked and neglected, and I developed a newfound compassion for myself. I began to prioritize self-care, including physical exercise, healthy eating, and emotional well-being.
As I became more attuned to my own experiences, I realized that many of the emotions and thoughts I was attributing to myself were actually coming from others. I learned to differentiate between my own feelings and those I was picking up from my environment. This self-awareness empowered me to set boundaries and create space for myself.
While I still face challenges with empathy, especially with close relationships, I have developed strategies to manage my sensitivity and maintain a healthy sense of self. By recognizing my empathic nature and taking steps to protect my energy, I have found a
greater sense of peace and fulfillment.
Embracing Your Empathic Nature
Understanding Your Sensitivity
Becoming more aware of your empathic nature can sometimes feel overwhelming. Remember, nothing has changed; you've simply gained a new perspective. Give your mind time to adjust and accept this newfound awareness.
Shifting Your Focus
Rather than focusing on external threats, turn inward and build up your inner strength. By focusing on your own well-being, you'll feel more empowered and less affected by external influences.
Mastering Your Empathy
You have the power to control how you perceive and respond to the world around you. Practice mindfulness and self-awareness to regulate your empathy and choose how you want to engage with others.
Embodying Safety and Peace
The ultimate goal is to reach a state of acceptance and inner peace. By embodying your safety and recognizing your innate strength, you can create a space for yourself that is free from the influence of others.
